SPIDER CONTROL

The spiders make their way into the houses of the humans. Our homes are perfect habitats for the 8 legged friends that we often fear. 
The humans come home to find spider webs around their windows, in the corners of rooms, and almost anywhere a corner exists. This frustrates the humans who don’t appreciate the spider's construction projects because they look untidy, especially when they gather insects and other stuff in the webs. These webs can also get in the way of security cameras and alarm systems.
So the human wipes and washes them away, and the spider, now getting frustrated itself, builds again.

 

Day after day the battle for the house goes on, but the spiders are relentless in their efforts to form webs. The hard-working spider does not understand what the problem is for the human.
humans do not like pests invading their living spaces, but to the spiders, they are not pests, they are the world's best pest controllers. 

To the human, the spiders are a nuisance, and they can be scary.  Residential properties around Wellington find that the most common Spiders that cause issues are the Grey House Spider, The White Tail, and the Tunnelweb.  The Grey and Black House Spider is usually the most responsible offender of those webs found everywhere. 

 

The Tunnel Web is usually found in dark damp places outside, under logs or stones etc., and is scary-looking to most humans. 
They can inflict a painful bite if handled by accident. It is not poisonous to humans like its Australian relative the Funnelweb.  And then there is the White Tail Spider with its bad reputation.

These little Spiders have become feared in NZ due to media stories of their bites causing skin ulcers and decay (necrosis).  While studies have found no evidence of this, a bite from a White Tail can certainly be painful but there are no long-term serious effects to the human. 

 

Care should be taken not to get bitten and it is for this reason that often people want as few of these house invaders as possible, especially where babies and little children are also living in the House. 

 

White Tail Spiders hunt other spiders and usually hunt around your home for a spider-based meal. One of the methods to deal with this spider is to get rid of as many Grey and Black Spiders, as this is their main food source.
